2025 Term 2 Week 6
1. Welcome to Week 6

Principal's Message
Hi everyone,
I can’t believe we are already halfway through the term. It has gone so fast!
This week, we had our School Supervisor, Ash Roediger, come and visit the school. He was impressed with the learning in the classrooms he visited and wanted me to pass on his appreciation to the teachers and students for their hard work.

QParents
Last week, we launched the initial set up of QParents at Wallumbilla State School. A letter and email was sent to all parents about registering for QParents. This term, we are using QParents to send home our Semester 1 Report Cards. By signing up to QParents, you will be able to access your child/ren's Report Card earlier than the traditional emailed Report Card.
As we become more immersed in QParents, we will begin to use many of the other features that QParents has to offer such as pay invoices, view outstanding payments and payment history, view student timetables, view and update attendance records, view behaviour information, update student medical conditions, and give consent for school activities.
The QParents website has more information: https://qparents.qld.edu.au/#/landing. If you have any questions about signing up for QParents, however, please don't hesitate to contact the office.
Physical Misconduct
Unfortunately, over the past week, a number of students have been involved in physical altercations. This behaviour doesn’t align to our school values of We are Responsible and We are Kind. At Wallumbilla State School, it is expected that all students show staff, students, parents and community members respect at all times and keep their hands, feet and objects to themselves.
Attendance Rewards on Parade
Over the last fortnight at parade, we have introduced a weekly whole-class attendance trophy for both Primary and Secondary to celebrate the class with the highest attendance for the week. The students have been super excited to try and win the trophy each week. Hopefully each class will work together as a team to strive to have the highest attendance in the school. We have also started an individual attendance reward on parade for a student in the Primary and Secondary who had 100% attendance at school for the week. Currently students are receiving $5 McDonalds vouchers, kindly donated by Roma McDonalds and Officer Matt.

We are currently running a poll to see when our school community would like parade to be. Please, tell us what you think by completing the poll below!
What's the best day and time for school parade?
Assessment
As we come the second half of the term, staff and students are busy completing assessments in time for reporting. It is important that all our students are well-rested, eating healthy meals and attending school every day. This will give the students the best chance of success.
Thanks
Ben Meiklejohn, Acting Principal

Primary Snapshot
Kindy/Prep
The Preps are very excited with the new lockers on the K/P veranda. We also won the Primary Attendance Award on parade this week.

The Kindy children enjoyed participating in some parachute games last week. These games help students develop skills such as following instructions, turn taking, co-ordination, physical movement and working as a team.

Year 1/2
For English this term we have been looking at informative texts. We have looked at a few different animals and discussed the text structures involved in writing an informative text. Here students are engaging in a collaborative approach, reading two examples and discussing which one is better and giving reasonings why by highlighting and identifying crucial writing elements.

Year 3/4
We’ve had a busy couple of weeks in Year 3/4! We moved our classroom down to the library and also farewelled our prac teacher, Mr Brady.
In Science, we’ve been investigating shadows and exploring how day and night occur through a variety of experiments, both in and outside the classroom.

Year 5/6
Year 5/6 students have been investigating how electrical circuits work by designing their own using copper tape, LEDs, and batteries. This clever creation shows how a closed circuit can successfully power a light, combining creativity with hands-on learning.

Secondary Snapshot
Careers Expo
The careers expo attended by the Year 9/10 students on the 15th of May was an outstanding event. Students appreciated the opportunity to explore and engage in activities, including the use of virtual reality to experience simulations of more hazardous tasks.

Our Target – 1000 books as a school!
The aim of the PRC is to encourage students to develop a love of reading for life. Students are encouraged to select a range of fiction and non-fiction books suited to their reading ability and record books read during the reading period, from 6 May to 22 August.
Students can start their recording from Friday 23 May!

- Prep to Year 2 must read or experience at least 20 books

Experiencing books can include shared reading, listening to stories, or reading picture books/novels/eBooks, graphic novels/comics books.
A reader record form to tally books read throughout the challenge has been sent home with students and is also available from the office.
Students are able to record any reading completed at home and at school onto their records.
Every student who completes the challenge, and returns the completed record reader form, will receive a Certificate of Achievement. I look forward to seeing as many of our students as possible take part in the 2025 Premier’s Reading Challenge.
