2025 Term 1 Week 10
Welcome to Week 10

Principal's Message
I am delighted to advise Mr Ben Meiklejohn has been appointed to the role of Principal for Term 2 at Wallumbilla State School, stepping into Mrs Graham's role in her absence. I know you will join with me in welcoming him to our school.
As we approach the end of Term 1, I would like to take a moment to reflect on what has been a truly rewarding and productive few months. Our students have shown incredible growth, both academically and personally, and it’s been wonderful to see them thrive in the classroom, on the sports field, and in all areas of school life. I’m incredibly proud of the efforts of both students and staff in making this term so successful.
A special thank you to all of our families for their continued support and involvement in school activities. Whether it’s through volunteering, attending events, or simply encouraging your children, your partnership plays a crucial role in our success. Congratulations and thanks in particular to the outgoing, continuing, and incoming P&C executive team.
Looking ahead to Term 2, we will have a number of short weeks due to public holidays and local events. In the first few weeks we’ll be commemorating Anzac Day, celebrating Labour Day, and enjoying the Wallumbilla and Roma Shows. I would like to acknowledge and thank all the families who participate in these important community observances and events. Your involvement helps to foster a strong sense of connection and pride within our school and community. While these short weeks can make the term feel a bit busier, we are confident that our students will continue to thrive and make the most of the time they have.
I hope that whatever your family has planned this Easter, that you are able to take the time to relax and recharge. We have an exciting second term ahead with many more opportunities for learning and growth. I look forward to seeing you all back refreshed and ready for another fantastic term!
Wishing everyone a safe and enjoyable holiday!

Anzac Day
Students are engaging in a range of activities to deepen their understanding of Anzac Day in the lead-up to April 25. Through storytelling, historical research, and creative projects such as writing letters to veterans and making poppy crafts, they are exploring the significance of the day. School-wide discussions and commemorative assemblies help students reflect on the sacrifices made by Australian and New Zealand service members, fostering respect and gratitude.
Join the community in commemorating Anzac Day on Friday, 25 April, with services in Wallumbilla and Yuleba.
The Dawn March and Service in Wallumbilla begins at 6:00am, with assembly at 5:45am outside the Wallumbilla Police Station. The march proceeds to the Wallumbilla War Memorial for the Dawn Service, followed by light refreshments at the Memorial Hall.
The Mid-Morning March and Service is in Yuleba this year and all students are invited to participate in this service as well. Assembly is at 8:45am outside Yuleba Hall, with the service commencing at 9:00am at the Yuleba War Memorial. Students should wear their school uniform and navy hat, and band members may wear their band shirts.
Please note: Although not all band students will be performing, they are invited to wear their band shirts for the march.

Year 5/6 Students have been learning the New Zealand National Anthem as part of Anzac Day preparations.
School Photographs
2025 Wallumbilla State School Photographs will be taken on Tuesday 29 April 2025 (Term 2 Week 2). Families will soon receive a a package from MSP Photography about ordering photos. For most students, photo day means a few minutes out of class to have their class photo taken and then they get on with their school day. For new kindergarten/prep students, Photo Day might seem a bit confusing. If students are more familiar with what happens on Photo Day, they will be well prepared to play their starring role.
On the day: Parents can help by dressing their child into their best school clothes and ensuring teeth have been brushed and hair is neat and tidy. Having the completed order envelope ready for the child to hand in makes the process run smoothly – even if an online order has been placed, or the parent isn’t ordering, the child will still need to bring in their envelope on the day.
More information can be found at MSP Photography https://www.msp.com.au/preparing-students-for-photo-day/
Health & Wellbeing

Weekly Wellbeing Focus
In Term 1, our focus across the whole school has been on student learning and wellbeing, with an emphasis on recognising and regulating stress responses in the body. Students have been exploring ways to maintain creativity, focus, motivation, and stay "in the flow" during their learning. This has helped them develop strategies to manage stress and improve their overall wellbeing, ensuring they’re ready to take on challenges with a positive mindset.
In Term 2, we will continue to build on our focus of student wellbeing by exploring relationships through the Berry Street Education Model. This approach will guide students in developing positive, respectful relationships with peers, teachers, and the wider school community. By focusing on strategies to build trust, empathy, and effective communication, we aim to strengthen students' social-emotional skills and enhance their ability to collaborate and thrive in a supportive learning environment. Term 2 promises to be an exciting opportunity for growth in both personal and academic development.
If you would like further information, school diaries outline the schedule of topics and activities that will be completed throughout the year.
